Skating Club hosts banquet, celebrates 80th anniversary

LAKE PLACID – A sold out dinner banquet was held on Sunday May 18 at The Pines Inn of Lake Placid. One-hundred twenty five Skating Club of Lake Placid members joined together to celebrate their 80th Anniversary of the Club and to award annual skating scholarships and achievement awards to their young and adult skater members.

A special proclamation was presented to Barbara Tyrell Kelly Day by Skating Club President Joe Currie, Vice President Tracey Ridenour and Skating Club Program Director Mary Catherine Spinelli. Kelly has been a member of the Skating Club of Lake Placid since 1937, and she is still actively skating in the adult figure skating program.

The proclamation was written by Lake Placid Mayor Craig Randall and dually recognized by Town of North Elba Supervisor Roby Politi honoring Kelly’s dedication to the community and to the sport of figure skating.

The United States Figures Skating Association also awarded Kelly with a congratulatory certificate recognizing her lifetime of dedication to the club and passion for the sport.

The Skating Club of Lake Placid began registration for the new season on June 1.
