Police: Woman endangered disabled person

SARANAC LAKE – A local woman has been arrested for allegedly endangering a disabled person.

Village police charged Meaghan K. Goff, 24, of Lake Placid, with endangering the welfare of an incompetent/physically disabled person in the second degree at 11:47 a.m. Monday.

Police said in a press release that the arrest stemmed from the investigation of alleged abuse against a person with a disability.

Chief Bruce Nason told the Enterprise that Goff allegedly kicked a chair where a disabled person was sitting with enough force to cause the person to fall out of the chair.

“The individual didn’t receive a physical injury, but there was the potential for the person to receive a physical injury because of her actions,” Nason said.

The chief wouldn’t identify where in the village the incident took place or what the relationship was between Goff and the victim, in an effort “to protect the victim as much as possible.”

Nason said the incident allegedly took place in March of this year and was reported to police in May. He said police obtained statements from other people who said they witnessed what happened.

Goff was processed and released on an appearance ticket for North Elba town court.
