Search to resume for missing hiker, 84
FORESTPORT (AP) – Authorities say they’ll resume their search for an 84-year-old man who failed to return from a hiking and camping trip in central New York.
State police say Donald Combs of Sauquoit, near Utica, left a note for his family on Thursday saying he was going camping in the town of Forestport, located on the Adirondack Park’s southwestern border in northern Oneida County.
His note said he would be home by Friday or Saturday. When he didn’t show up, his family went looking for him and found his vehicle Sunday near the trailhead for the Black River Wild Forest. When they couldn’t find Combs, the family called 911.
State troopers and forest rangers searched the area until dark. They plan to resume the search this morning.
