Teaching kids Safe Routes to School
To the editor:
Earlier this month, the Franklin County Safe Routes to School Program and North Country Healthy Heart Network Inc. hosted a week-long biking and walking training for campers 8 and 9 years old participating in the Saranac Lake Area Youth Program.
I wanted to take a moment to thank all the people that helped make this program possible: Meagan White (program director) and her entire staff at the youth program; Paul Leahy, president of the youth program; Dean Fountain from the Franklin County Traffic Safety Board; and the following community volunteers: Marijke Ormel, Steve Erman, Lindy Ellis, Sally Walrath and Allen Dunham. Thanks to their efforts, campers had fun while learning how to bike and walk safely around Saranac Lake.
