Cody Lawrence wins Sidney J. Ward Sr. Memorial Scholarship

JAY – Ward Lumber has selected Cody Lawrence as the winner of this year’s Sidney J. Ward Sr. Memorial Scholarship.

Cody Lawrence is the son of Darren Lawrence, log sealer and timber buyer for Ward Lumber, and Laura Lawrence. Cody will receive $1,000 for one year of college study. Cody will begin his first year at North Country Community College in Saranac Lake this fall, pursuing a degree in forestry. The selection process is based on scholastic achievement, community and extracurricular activities, personal aspirations and financial need. The scholarship was established in 1971 as a tribute to Sidney J. Ward Sr. who, while only completing eighth grade before going to work to support his family, believed in encouraging and promoting education, scholastic achievement and good citizenship.

Clinton C.C. announces spring 2014 president’s list

PLATTSBURGH – The following students have been named to the president’s list for the spring 2014 semester at Clinton Community College:

Locals earn President’s Scholarship at Keene State

KEENE, N.H. – This scholarship recognizes first-year students who display high academic performance at Keene State University. The following local students have earned the President’s Scholarship:

David Benham makes dean’s list at Pratt

NEW YORK – David Benham, a Saranac Lake resident, was among more than 1,000 students at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn who made the dean’s list in the spring 2014 semester.

Locals earn bachelor’s degrees at SUNY Oswego

OSWEGO – SUNY Oswego recently awarded degrees to the following local students:

-Ryan C. Farmer of Franklin County Route 50 in Lake Clear (Bachelor of Arts in cinema and screen studies, summa cum laude)

-Dana M. Tarantelli of Split Rock Road in Saranac Lake (Bachelor of Science in physics)

-Henry J. Salamy of Lincoln Drive in Tupper Lake (Bachelor of Arts in psychology, magna cum laude)
