One injured after dump truck hits car, boat trailer
SARANAC LAKE – One person was taken to the hospital following a collision Thursday morning between a dump truck and a car pulling a trailer loaded with canoes and kayaks.
John P. Scott, 65, of Antwerp, was driving a 1995 Mac dump truck south on state Route 3 when state police said he rear-ended a 2008 Subaru and trailer driven by Robert J. Maswick, 59, of Lake Placid, as Maswick slowed to turn into the Second Pond Boat Launch.
A passenger in Maswick’s vehicle, Eli E. Hameline, 17, of Saranac Lake, complained of a head injury and was taken to Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake by the Saranac Lake Volunteer Rescue Squad. He was treated and released.
Maswick and two other passengers in the Subaru were not injured.
Scott, who also was not injured, was ticketed for following to closely.
The dump truck was registered to Makuch Welding of Evans Mills. It sustained front-end damage to the driver’s side. The Subaru’s rear hatch and bumper were damaged in the collision. It was towed from the scene by Madden’s Towing and Recovery.
The Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department responded at 9:30 a.m. with six members and one truck. Firefighters controlled traffic and assisted the rescue squad, returning to the fire station at 10:25 a.m.
