Man gets 25 years for rape
A Lewis man has been sentenced to the maximum possible prison term for raping a 12 year-old girl.
Andrew P. Mullin, 50, was convicted in May of first-degree rape and endangering the welfare of a child. He raped the girl while she was at a sleepover at his home. Mullin’s daughter was the girl’s best friend.
Mullin was sentenced Thursday by Essex County Court Judge Richard Meyer to 25 years in state prison, according to a press release from the Essex County District Attorney’s Office. The release said Meyer called Mullin “a despicable human being” during the proceedings and said he was giving him the maximum because he showed no remorse and poses a danger to the community.
“In all the years that I have prosecuted cases such as these, I have never seen a defendant show such a lack of remorse by not only blaming the child victim, but pointing fingers at everyone in the courtroom but himself,” DA Kristy Sprague said in the release. “The true hero in all of this is this child who was brave and courageous and endured the smirks and comments from the defendant throughout the trial and got on the witness stand and told the truth.”
In addition to 25 years behind bars, Mullin was also sentenced to 20 years of post release supervison and various mandatory fees and surcharges. An order of protection was issued for the victim and her family.
