State police believe Placid man behind multiple burglaries

TUPPER LAKE — After he was charged with felony criminal possession of stolen property late last month, state police say they believe a Lake Placid man is a suspect in multiple burglaries around the North Country.

On July 31, state police charged Tucker Angelopoulous, 20, of Lake Placid with fourth degree criminal possession of a stolen property valuing greater than $1,000, a felony, and possession of burglary tools and criminal possession of a controlled substance, both misdemeanors, among other charges.

State police Public Information Officer Jennifer Fleishman said Angelopoulous was charged after state police responded at approximately 7:30 a.m. on July 31 to a report of motor vehicle collision on state Routes 3 and 30 in front of Sunmount Developmental Center. She added that further charges against Angelopoulous are pending.

Fleishman said on the morning of July 31, Angelopoulous was operating a 2010 Subaru Forester and struck the rear of a 2010 Hyundai Accent operated by Eric Pasternak, 45, of Bloomingdale. Fleishman said Pasternak was preparing to turn into the Sunmount parking lot when Angelopoulous’ vehicle struck his. Though Pasternak complained of back pain and Tupper Lake Ambulance Services responded, Pasternak declined to be transported to a medical center.

Angelopoulous was then found to be in possession of two oxycodone pills he did not have a prescription for, a crow bar, multiple bottles of alcohol, and a glass smoking device containing marijuana residue. Fleishman also said he was in possession of proceeds to multiple burglaries he had committed in the surrounding area.

Angelopoulous was arraigned in Tupper Lake Town Court by Judge Leonard Young and sent to Franklin County Jail for lack of bail, posted at $2,500 cash and $5,000 secured bond. After he was transported to Franklin County Jail, Angelopoulous was released after a relative posted $2,500 cash bail. He is scheduled to return to court at a later date.
